The grain runs open and varied, so two pieces from the same run never match exactly. Build matters more than species: solid joined frames outlast veneered panels in any wood.
Open grain takes a ring faster than a lacquered top, so coasters earn their place here. Polish two or three times a year with a wax free furniture polish and the surface stays even. Long direct sun fades the tone unevenly and a nearby radiator can open the grain, so position matters more than product. Spills come off with a soft cloth if you catch them.
