What is an accent chair?

An accent chair is a standalone chair used for extra seating and visual contrast. It is not part of a matched suite, and it usually differs from the sofa in material, colour or shape. In this collection that means handwoven rattan against upholstery: the Sahara Handwoven Rattan Accent Chair, the Danae Handwoven Rattan and Mahogany Accent Chair, the Cove Curved Handwoven Rattan Occasional Chair. It sits lower and deeper than a dining chair, which is why the two are not interchangeable.

How do you style an accent chair?

Angle it toward the sofa rather than squaring it to a wall, and give it a side table at arm height so it functions as a seat rather than a sculpture. Two chairs facing each other read better than one chair alone across a wide room. Let it contrast: an open woven frame beside an upholstered sofa does more for a room than a second upholstered piece.

FAQ

What size accent chair fits a small room?

Under 30 inches wide, and choose an open frame over a fully upholstered one. Woven rattan and cane designs leave the floor visible, which is what stops a small room reading as full.
