Which table do you actually need?

The category names overlap more than they should, which is why this page exists. A coffee table sits low in front of a sofa. An organic side table or organic end table stands beside a chair at arm height. A console table is narrow and goes against a wall. A nightstand is a side table sized to a bed. If you already know the room, the category pages narrow faster than this grid does: accent and side tables, coffee tables, console tables.

How do you decorate a side table?

One tall object, one low one, and space between them. A lamp or a vase gives the height, a book or a small tray gives the base, and the remaining surface stays free for a cup. Scale the objects to the top: the Isla Scalloped Round Side Table takes a narrow lamp better than a wide shade, while the Marisol Solid Wood Side Table with Shelf moves the clutter down a level and keeps the top clear.
